Principals, Ewald Schwarzenegger, PE and Darrin Elsom, PE have been working together in the Greene County and Hudson Valley engineering and construction industry since 1990.
In 1990, Mr. Schwarzenegger and his wife Janet started Schwarzenegger Engineering in a small cottage on Joel Austin Road in Cairo providing engineering, building construction plans and construction management. Mr. Elsom joined Mr. Schwarzenegger as his first Staff Engineer. The firm grew to five employees within the first year.
In 1991, Schwarzenegger Engineering moved into new office space attached to the Schwarzenegger's new home at 24 Joel Austin Road. In 1992, Schwarzenegger Engineering received a Greene County Economic Development loan to expand their business. The firm grew to nine employees.
In 1993, Schwarzenegger Engineering, in conjunction with the Town of Cairo Task Force, received a New York State Energy Research Development grant for the Town to perform a study for an innovative subsurface treatment system. In 1994, Mr. Schwarzenegger became an alternate member of the Coalition of Watershed Towns negotiating with the City of New York on the NYC Watershed Wide Regulations.
In 1997, Mr. Elsom partnered with Mr. Schwarzenegger to form Kaaterskill Associates, PC. In 1998, Kaaterskill Associates began working with the Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District on the NYC Watershed Stream Restoration Projects. In 1998, Kaaterskill Associates contracted with the Catskill Watershed Corp. to design replacement septic systems for residents of Greene County. The firm has completed over 150 replacement systems.
Also in 1998, Mr. Elsom and Mr. Schwarzenegger were co-founders of the New York State Onsite Wastewater Association (NYOWA). This is an association striving to bring training and excellence in management practice to the local agencies, engineers, inspectors and contractors.
In 1999, Kaaterskill Associates added Surveying to their Scope of Services, opened its Tannersville branch and added the Architectural Design component to their Scope of Services. In 2000, the Environmental Engineering division was added to their Scope of Services.
In 2002, Mr. Schwarzenegger and Mr. Elsom applied for and received a patent for the ?Recirculation of Wastewater in a Filtration Bed Design?.
In 2003, Mr. Elsom was a member of the NYS Onsite Wastewater Treatment System Steering Committee to review the NYS Standards for Sewage Disposal System Designs under 75A of the NYS Health Code.
In 2006, Kaaterskill Associates added Landscape Architecture and Design Services. Ed Kleinke, Landscape Architect., became a limited partner in the firm.
In 2007, Kaaterskill Associates received a County Economic Development loan, Façade Grant and Interior Renovation grant. They purchased the former His and Hers building in the heart of Cairo on Main Street.
In November 2007, Kaaterskill Associates moved into their new headquarters at 517 Main Street, Cairo and now employs 20 people with additional summer employment opportunities for a total of 24 employees. |
